As a visually impaired artist in the 1980s, I never thought about my art becoming a very different kind of “limited edition”.  However, I now can appreciate their special significance.  I feel fortunate to have been blessed with enough vision during the 1980s to create artwork that will never again be produced from this rare visual perspective.

BLIND SPOTS “An Artistic Simulation of Retinitis Pigmentosa”

I created this acrylic painting while retaining 8 to 10 degrees of central vision back in the mid 1980s.  This image simulates my colorful tunnel vision as I focus on a person's eye from across the table of a dimly lit restaurant.

As a young artist, I never gave much thought to my creations as being anything unique, or special.  In hind sight, however, I realize it is a perfect example of seeing beyond your disability, maximizing your abilities and never letting it get in your way of fulfilling your goals.  Somehow, I was able to see beyond the blind spots and create the art I share with you today.
